Dan Rather and DNC in Cahoots on Guard Memos, Letter Shows
By Easton Weston

BAGHDAD -- Spolitics has obtained a
letter written by the
DNC chairman,
Terry McAuliffe, to CBS News' Dan
Rather that shows the anchor really
obtained the memos used in his
60 Minutes story accusing the President
of not fulfilling his national guard duty
from Mr. McAuliffe, and not Dan Burkett
as the network reported. The letter refers
to the "the documents we talked about"
and goes on to say, "We'll really nail Bush
with these" and "we owe you."

The letter suggests an alliance between
Rather and McAuliffe aimed at smearing
Bush.  According to an anonymous
source close to both parties, Burkett was
offered as a scapegoat to hide the
collaborative relationship between CBS
and the DNC.

While Spolitics has not been able to confirm the letter's  authenticity, we have
verified that Mr. McAuliffe is trying to prevent President Bush's re-election,
including raising millions of dollars in a campaign against the incumbent.

Also, Spolitics has been able to establish that Mr. Rather has spoken with Mr.
McAuliffe on at least one occasion.  And in 2000 Mr. Rather told the American
people that Al Gore had won the election, possibly an attempt to keep Mr. Bush out
of office.

In a related story the Kerry campaign lashed out against the President for not
condemning the experts who questioned the memos used by CBS on its 60 Minutes
program, saying they refuse to endure such attacks on their patriotism.

John Edwards, while campaigning in the United States of America, said to a small
crowd, "Once again the President had the opportunity to come to the Kerry
campaign's defense and help us win this election by denouncing those who are
thwarting our message, and once again the President has refused to do so."
