Perhaps Hollow Praise Was the Best Hillary Could Do

WaPo’s Richard Cohen criticizes Hillary Clinton for not sharing any praising anecdotes about Barack Obama during her convention speech. Here’s a thought: perhaps she didn’t have any. It’s not like Obama worked with Hillary (or anyone really) on legislation. Before running for President, he spent his first few months in the Senate writing a book about himself and, apparently, securing earmarks for Joe Biden’s son. It’s not her fault her party has nominated a candidate who hasn’t done anything worth praising.

Clinton maintained throughout her run that this election was about the issues, not the person. Why would she change her tune now? She gave a great speech, one focused on the issues her supporters care about. It’s easy to imagine that many people watching were thinking the Democrats nominated the wrong person and, perhaps, that’s really what’s behind Cohen’s misty-eyed yearning for better Obama anecdotes.
