Obama: My Energy Plan Will Bankrupt Coal Plants

Once again, Barack Obama has been caught saying one thing to the elites in San Francisco and quite another to the people in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The Presidential hopeful told the San Fransisco Chronicle that his energy plan will be structured in such a way that it intentionally increases the costs on coal fired plants and forces them into bankruptcy.

Incomprehensibly, he says this after noting that America is dependent on coal for power (half of our electricity comes from coal). So why would he want to bankrupt coal plants… because he values Global Warming orthodoxy over affordable energy.

Couple this with his pledge to subsidize electric cars and it’s clear Senator Obama does not have a coherent energy plan. He opposes coal, nuclear energy, and drilling for oil and clean-burning natural gas. Where are we going to get the electricity to power our businesses, much less all those electric cars he wants to build. Energy prices are skyrocketing because there isn’t enough production and rather than increase production, Obama wants to wipe-out 50% of our producers — not to mention the jobs they provide.

Update: The Ohio Coal Association responds (via Red State):

“It’s evident that this campaign has been pandering in states like Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana and Pennsylvania to attempt to generate votes from coal supporters, while keeping his true agenda hidden from the state’s voters.

“Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation’s coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to ‘bankrupt’ our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.

As Ed at Hot Air points out, it’s not that Obama doesn’t understand his policies will cause energy prices to skyrocket. It’s that he doesn’t care. He thinks a dramatic rise in energy prices is necessarily.
