The Only Poll That Counts
by Heywood U. Reedmore -- November 3, 2008 at 2:53 pm | In 2008 Election | No CommentsThe polls are all over the place which should tell us, if anything, that they’re wrong. The only question that remains is are they wrong enough for McCain to pull off an upset? That was the case for Hillary Clinton in the New Hampshire primary. It could happen again. We’ll know soon enough if it will. Tomorrow, Americans will conduct the only poll that counts — the actual election.
It’s clear Democrats believe they already have this thing won. Otherwise, their enablers in the media would be laying the groundwork for claims that the election was stolen. If liberals felt vulnerable, they’d be assaulting us with stories about the nefarious links between Republicans and the manufacturers of electronic voting machines. They’ve been awfully quiet on the subject lately. Apparently, they have no need for conspiracy theories when they’re certain they’re going to win. Yes, there have been a few stories about the Bradley effect (apparently, if Democrats lose this year it’s only because Americans are racists). But the media’s myth-making advance work is nowhere near as extensive as it was in 2004 when they much less confident about A Kerry victory.
Obama is even spending money trying to win McCain’s home state of Arizona. That’s not the move of someone trying to ensure a win; that’s the move of someone ego-manically focused on winning big and embarrassing his opponent. Obama is so cocksure he has the election wrapped up, he’s focusing on the coronation.
We’ll know soon enough if he’s right. Until then, conservatives can take solace in an old Reagan quote: “The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so.”
